We went to my second doctor's appointment today, July 23rd, at 11:30. Matt and I planned to meet there, but I arrived early. I went ahead and checked in and the nurse called me in immediately. Before I knew it the nurse was taking my blood pressure and asking me to lie down so she could find the heartbeat. It took her a few minutes to find it, but when she did it sounded good and was beating at 166 per minute. Unfortunately, Matt missed it! I was sad he wasn't there, but he'll get to hear it another time; maybe at the ultrasound at 19 weeks. I'm 10.5 weeks now.
The doctor did a physical and said everything looked good. Matt arrived shortly afterwards just in time for our q&a session. One of our questions pertained to getting my hair colored. As many of you know my hair is all gray, so I get it colored and highlighted quite often. My doctor had mentioned that I could color my hair as long as the chemicals didn't touch my scalp; well that's hard to do when you've got to cover so much gray. We asked her about it again and she basically told me that I cannot get my hair colored for the rest of the pregnancy. The research isn't definitive, but it's better to be safe than sorry. I can still get highlights because foil is used which keeps the chemicals off the scalp, but I doubt it'll cover all of the gray. We'll see how creative my stylist, Christina, can be!
I also had to give blood, but I did well and didn’t get light headed. I’ve been known to faint at the sight of my own or others blood. The phlebotomist let me lie down which helped. My next appointment is on August 14th.
Finally, I told my employer today! I swung by the Hitachi office on my way back to the client site and managed to catch both of my bosses in one office. They were really excited for us. I also told my project team and they were very excited for us too! It's nice to be able to tell everyone now because we are not very good at keeping secrets.

Weeks 8 & 9
I started feeling better during week 8. Although the nausea has subsided a bit (as long as I snack and eat 3 meals on time), I was tired this week. I went to bed at 7:00 p.m. one night!
I hit 9 weeks on Thursday, July 12th and am continuing to feel better, but I still have different symptoms each week. I'm also having very vivid dreams. My book says this is due to my increased hormone levels. Isn't that strange? I have the craziest dreams about family, friends and work and I remember all of it because I wake up a lot during the night. Sometimes the dreams are so vivid that I wake up exhausted because I feel like I've actually lived through the dream.
Smells get to me too; they don't make me physically sick, but they are so strong! There are some things I just can't stand like the smell of biscuits and strong spices. I know there are others but I can't think of them just now.

Living with my parents...
I forgot to mention (for those of you who don't know) that Matt and I are living with my parents temporarily. We bought an old house in West University (near downtown and the medical center) that was built in 1939. It's located on the corner of Buffalo Speedway and Albans.

We originally thought we would live there for a couple of years before rebuilding, until we took a closer look and started having issues getting insurance. To make a long story short, we plan to tear it down and rebuild within the next couple of years (maybe sooner), and in the meantime Matt's brother Scott is living there and we are staying with Mom and Sam. Our plan as of now is to stay with Mom and Sam up until a couple of months after the baby is born since Matt will be in "busy season" in February. It'll be nice to have their help while he is working 80 hours a week. Then we'll either rent a house or apartment or fix up the old house enough to live in it for a while.
We all figured that I'd get pregnant as soon as we moved in and sure enough I did. Matt and I are thankful; we've been trying for a year now!
I must say Mom and Sam have been very accommodating to this pregnant lady! They always make sure and buy whatever I want from the store and Sam is always willing to cook whatever sounds good for dinner. Unfortunately nothing sounds good right now!
Matt has been good too! Most of the time, he is happy to get me a bowl of ice cream for dessert or a glass of milk for my pre bedtime snack.

Our first blog!
Matt and I finally have a reason to start our Sicinski Family blog! We found out on June 9th that we are expecting our first child. As you can imagine, we are very excited! As of today, I am approximately 8 weeks pregnant and am due February 14th, Valentine's Day.
We had our first doctor's appointment on July 3rd and got to see the baby's heartbeat. My doctor, Shelly Leeds Richter, said everything looks good and to come back in 3 weeks. Our next appointment is on July 23rd.
So far I have not been feeling well, but it's getting better. The symptoms seem to change every week! Here's a brief summary:
Week 4 - I never thought I could be so tired! I find myself yawning during meetings and falling asleep during lunch. Going to bed earlier during the week and taking naps on the weekend seems to help.
Week 5 - The nausea started and is on and off throughout the day. Also, I find myself starving at meal time! I basically snack throughout the day trying to get full and curb the nausea. In addition, the indigestion kicked in, so I have heartburn after meals and tend to burp a lot. Excuse me! :)
Week 6 - I am still having nausea or a burning stomach most of the time. Also, my heart rate is up. It feels like my heart just might pop out of my chest. This causes me to feel dizzy. I had to lie down after my shower the other morning, so Matt decided to look it up in one of our pregnancy books. Sure enough; the book said my body is creating more blood which means my heart is pumping faster to get it all circulated through my body to the baby.
Week 7 - The day of our first appointment, I got up and ate an orange (I have to eat as soon as I get up!) and then took a shower. I started getting ready and did not feel well. I went to lie down on the couch and hoped it would pass. No such luck, about 15 minutes later I threw up the entire orange! Ouch!!! Later at our visit, the doctor said it was most likely caused by nerves and stress. The nausea has not been as bad the rest of this week or maybe I should say it's a different kind of upset stomach now. Let me just say I'm having digestive problems!
Luckily, Matt and I took off this week for the 4th of July (we had planned to go to Brownwood/Abilene to see my family, but I wasn't up for the 6 hour drive), so I got lots of rest!
