My brave girl

Today was Reese's 2 year check up. I had an inkling she would do better than before just because she is 2 and more confident now. However, I still planned well packing the doctor kit, Dora book and a snack.

She was hunky dory like usual in the waiting room, but when we walked back toward the exam room it all hit her. She pouted a bit, but didn't cry hard until they had me take her Nike's off so they could check her weight and height. I reassured her I would put them right back on and managed to distract her with the Dora book.

She wasn't thrilled about being weighed, but who is? During the entire visit, she was able to calm down quickly and focus her attention elsewhere. The nurse gave her two Dora stickers for letting her take her temperature. Then she sat on the examination table and let me pretend to check her eyes, ears, temp, nose, heartbeat, etc. She even repeated "heartbeat" when I told her what I was doing.

The pretend play worked! When the doctor arrived Reese stayed calm which allowed us to speak unlike the past few times when she was screaming bloody murder. Harsh words, I know. Then when the doctor did exam Reese, she cooperated albeit with a pouted lip and a few whines. I told Reese she was very brave and I was so proud of her. The doc and I were very impressed! Reese has turned the corner and realizes the doctor won't hurt her; she leaves that to the nurse. ;)

Reese did get two vaccinations, one nasal and one shot, but she did well and got over it fast. She walked all the way out of the office and to the car happy as a lark.

Stats at 2 years: 29.3 pounds and 35 inches both placing her in the 75 percentile.

Tonight she drank milk from a regular cup using one hand and didn't spill a drop. I'm telling you, our big girl does something new each day!
