Reese at the doctor

On the way to the doctor Reese saw the word STOP appear on the back of the bus and she recognized it. I said "how did you know that said STOP?" She said "because that is the sign we use at school when the center is full." (the teachers allow 4 kids on each center at one time. They move their name when they change centers and a stop sign is below the fourth name). So what does this mean? Reese can read!

She also recognized the hospital where she and Lane were born and told me how she brought him a puppy when Gigi and Grandma took her to see us. What a memory.










Speaking of her memory ... She found her Thomas the Train ball and remembered how we found it near a pipe in the backyard of our old Albans house. Seriously!!! She was like 2 years old then. How in the world did she recall that?

9/11 - A Decade Later

To quote the Houston Chronicle on Sunday September 11, 2011 section G:

There was Sept. 10, 2001 - the last normal day - and then there was every day after that. Our words, our thoughts and our worldview have changed dramatically. Look at these words and think back to a time when they would have made no sense to you.

Ground Zero, Al-Qaida, Manhattan skyline, empty skies, George W. Bush, United 93, flag lapel pins, Rudy Giuliani, Air Marshals, Taliban, Shanksville, Pa., bare feet at the air port, twin towers, FDNY, Dept. of Homeland Security, No Goodbyes at Airport Gates, NYPD, pat-downs, Let's roll, hijackers, Pentagon, locked cockpits, God Bless America, Saddam Hussein, boots on the ground, deployments, Seal Team Six, TSA, Thank You For Your Service.

I was working in Schenectady, NY for an Arthur Andersen project, couldn't get a flight home and ended up driving a rental car 22 hours from Rhode Island to New Orleans, Louisiana with my co-worker Monique Vocke. Bruce Arzten passed away while I was driving South. We actually drove through New York City across one of the bridges and I remember seeing many American flags - the entire country came together. These are the immediate things I remember from that tragic event.

Matt was working at Arthur Andersen in downtown Houston and had to evacuate the building he was in. The events of 9/11 sparked Matt's desire to serve and ultimately resulted in his commission with the military.

Today American flags flew up and down Buffalo Speedway.

And Matt spent the weekend serving his country. I had the privilege to meet some of his friends this weekend. We are all very proud and thankful for Matt's service. Thank you to all who serve our country everyday.
