It's 10:05 p.m. and I am just sitting down after a fun night of playing, dinner, a wagon walk, bathes, bedtime books, dishes and lunch prep - every evening is like this; hence why I don't get to blog as much as I would like! Oh and I need to be at work by 6:30 a.m. for a call with India and Matt is still not home from work.
But today is a super special day - it's our baby boy's 1st birthday! How in the world is that possible? If I look back - yes it does seem possible and we have come a long way, but my it flew by!
~ It is also his first day back at home with Grandma Ruth. We decided to take him out of daycare after being sick with 3 ear infections and 2 pink eyes over the past 10 weeks. He has been sick every other week and missing so much school which we still pay for, so with a suggestion from his pediatrician we made the decision to remove him from infant care. She actually said to change day cares if he got sick again, but I wasn't going to do that as long as Grandma and Pat were able to keep him at our home. In some ways it was an easy decision because we have family who can care for him (Grandma and Pat will take turns watching him), but in other ways it was hard because we love his teachers and I know he had fun at school. ~
Here he is today sporting his gift from Uncle Lance - Lane's first Texas Rangers tee. Go Rangers!

At one year Lane still has striking blue eyes and beautiful blonde hair. He is into everything and almost impossible to diaper or dress. He can crawl on all fours now, but prefers the soldier crawl on this tummy because he is fast as a little lizard. It's so funny to watch. He can pull up and has stood by himself for a second or two, but he hasn't taken any official steps yet. He can climb the staircase all by himself (I let him do it once just to see if he could - I was right behind him the entire time). We need to baby proof more, but we do have a baby gate up at the bottom of the stairs and one at the end of the game room. I have to watch him like a hawk. He can figure out how to get into anything and loves to open and close drawers even though he has smashed his fingers multiple times. He loves to put everything in his mouth so we are constantly picking up things that are hazardous - like Reese's pebbles from the playground at school or her dinner crumbs. He likes to pull both Reese's and my hair. I tell her it's just his way of telling her he loves her. She actually doesn't mind that much, but sometimes he gets such a big chunk before I can intercept that it hurts her. He is about 22 lbs and 31 inches and wears 12-18 month clothes. His favorite book to read is "Time for Bed". I tried to change it up last night and he tossed "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" aside and looked for his favorite instead. He grins and giggles when I pull the book out to read. It's the best thing!

He loves his new block set from Aunt Jamie and takes the block and tosses them across the floor. He also loves his new Eeyore from Uncle Chris, but Reese takes it and plays with it. He tugs the tail, but she holds on tight even though I ask her to share. She considers it hers along with the other 3 stuffed Eeyores and 2 Pez dispensers we own. Yep, we love Eeyore!
He also likes Reese's cars from the movies Cars 1 and Cars 2. This one is really too small for him to play with, but Reese and I kept a close watch and I finally took it from him.
Reese decided it was ok to wear her Easter dress once more even though it's now Fall. Well it was 90 something degrees today, so why not pretend it's still summer. The dress must be quite hot because it has two layers of tutu and a slip.
Reese loves his new elephant air toy which reminds me of a similar ball popper she had when she was one.
They also love Nick Jr. We try to limit our T.V. time, but it's a good way to keep them entertained while I whip up dinner. Some of our favorites include Moose A. Moose, The Fresh Beat Band, Dora and Diego, Olivia, Backyardigans and Wonder Pets.
Lane likes to hold up one hand with or without a toy in it. It's sort of his way of waving.
As far as food goes, Lane is still eating stage 2 foods with cereal and yogurt. He does like puffs and can feed himself, but he gags on anything else I offer (bananas, strawberries, watermelon, spaghetti, etc.). I guess he'll decide when he is ready to eat real food! He has 6 teeth - 4 on top and 2 on bottom.
When he is hungry he still puts both hands behind his head. It is hilarious! Such a little man already - feed me! I have decided it's his way of doing the sign for "more" instead of putting his hands together he just puts them behind his head. When his is done he will put his hands over his mouth or his eyes. When I do the sign for "all done" he laughs at me. Like duh that is what I was telling you!
I offered him whole milk for the first time in his sippy cup. He was not overly impressed. I believe his doctor will tell me on Monday at his 1 year appointment that I should not offer the milk in a bottle. She'll want me to start weaning him from it. We've been giving him the sippy cups with water, but he doesn't drink too much yet.
He and Reese are both on a kick of making noise with their tongues and lips like Pppppbbbbbb! Lane will also do this to let me know he doesn't want what ever I am trying give him or do to him (like clean his face/nose). The noises are great fun. And they both give the biggest smiles when they make me laugh. I have decided they both have a better sense of humor than me - they must get that from Matt. Ha! They remind me what is important and I take in each and every moment and cherish it.
