A smorgasbord of pictures of firsts...during Lane's 5th month

Life is busy and it seems like we go, go, go and never stop. So when it's like this, I make notes of things I want to remember about the times that are seemingly flying by so fast. I keep a document on my desktop at work called "blog to remember" and as things come to me I jot them down real quick before I forget them.

During Lane's 5th month the milestones included:

We quit swaddling him at the beginning of his 4th month.
He rolled over in his 4th month and began pulling his legs under him like he wants to crawl.
He continued to be very vocal and he loves to smile and laugh.
He has such a great smile with dimples and all.
He laughs when tickled or kissed on the neck - it is such a cute laugh that comes from his throat. He grabs toys and pulls himself up using a toy hanging above him while laying on his floor gym. He grabs mommy's hair - ouch!
Lane held Reese's hand - she liked that!
He loves to watch Reese play and is entertained by conversation.
When Mommy called Lane a "baby bundle" Reese said, "No, he's a tweet tweet."
Lane can walk up your belly when standing on your lap.
Lane is eating cereal once or twice a day, but still not sleeping through the night. He did well on March 19th - slept from 10:30 - 4:45, then back down until 7:45 and then 9:15.
He is taking anywhere from 3-6 ounces at a time. 3 when his tummy hurts. Average is 4.5.
Lane is going down easier (don't jinx it) and will put himself to sleep or cry himself to sleep in 10 minutes. We just started the crying it out when we looked back and saw on the blog we did that with Reese at 5 months.
He is pooping more often - Yay! Still gassy and stinky (from the breast milk I think - too many whole grains Mommy)! Such a boy.

Lane pulling up/sitting up in bath tub – strong abs.
Can sit in saucer and play with toys – coordinates his hands to move the toys, etc.

Reese out grew 3T in 3 months and is in 4T and size 10 shoes – tall girl! So tall, ran into a wall at school on playground.
Reese enjoying Cinderella and the pink dress. Says the girls are not nice to Cinderella and the dog Bruno is not nice to the cat Lucifer.
When Mommy was frustrated with Daddy I said to Reese that I was not happy with Daddy. Soon after Reese said, "I'm not happy with Daddy either." "He put me in timeout."
When walking ahead of Reese she says "wait for me mommy!!!"
Reese telling made up stories – very creative and tells them over and over, but changes the details.
Reese looked at my long hair and said, "I want big hair; tall hair." I replied, "You mean long hair?" "Yes, long hair!"
Shy in crowd – at little gym – won’t participate in group songs/music just sits in mommy’s lap. After arriving home from work, Reese said "Where’s Lane?"He was out for a walk with MaMa Pat.
Reese wants to go "first" for everything. If you go first, she’ll make you backup and let her go (open the door, close the door, etc.)

5th month pics...

milk & cookies...yum

Almost every night we bake cookies (they are really yummy and semi-good for us - made by the Immaculate Baking Co.) and enjoy them with a cold glass of milk. It has become a fun tradition and quite the habit for the three of us. The way we scarf them down you would think they were the last cookies on earth.

Lane rolls over and says Hi

At 4.5 months Lane rolled over from back to belly (March 1st to be exact). At 5 months he rolled over from belly to back (March 19th). He now rolls over from his back to his belly all of the time, but had not mastered getting back over on his back yet.

During his 5th month, Lane also started making a noise that sound like, "Hi." Soooo cute!

Not so sure about this tummy time thing, but I did roll over by myself.

The arm pin gets him everytime. He finally learned how to pull it out from under his belly.

Trying hard to get over, but not having fun...it could have been the slippery blanket on the wood floor. Kind of hard to get any traction Mom!

Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo

On March 10th Matt and I took the day off to spend it with Reese at the annual Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Reese was so excited! She finally obliged and wore her rodeo outfit for the big event (well the boots at least). Her favorite friend Jessie from Toy Story joined us as well.

Reese got to ride the Metro rail for the first time. She loved riding the train.

Even though we went on a Thursday it was still very crowded with stay at home parents and school field trips.

After some lunch, we visited the children's arena and saw pigs, cows, lambs and a long horn. Later in the week Reese told me, "Pigs don't live in the city; they live at the rodeo."

All week long Reese kept telling me how she wanted to ride a horse at the rodeo. So we eagerly waited in line for the pony rides!



I will never forget how excited Reese was to ride the pony. The look on her face was priceless and it brought me so much joy to see how happy she was to ride a horse for the first time. We were both grinning from ear to ear and loving every minute of that ride.

For some reason our pictures came out blurry, but you get the idea. She loved it!

She later called the ride a merry-go-round because the ponies walked around in a circle under a tent that looked like a merry-go-round.


After the pony ride, we walked around and looked at all the educational booths. Reese wanted her picture taken by the big milk bottle.

Then she and Matt rolled down the hill.


Next was the petting zoo and what a zoo it was. There were so many animals, kids and parents in there. Reese knew just what to do. The Houston Zoo brings animals to her school twice a year so she has experience petting the animals.


Last but not least we ventured out to the fair grounds. Reese kept talking about the Ferris Wheel, but we didn't ride it this time. We had fun on three other rides though!

I just kept thinking all day how big my little girl is now. She wanted to ride all the rides by herself and had a blast.


I got to join her on the Dizzy Dragon because she was too short to ride alone. She turned the wheel and made it go fast. I had to stop it because it made my way too dizzy!!!

I think this is such a pretty picture of Reese.

She loved going round and round.

This was the last ride she rode before we left for the day. I like how she is waving at us from the car.

On our way back to the train she asked us if we could come back tomorrow. I told her we would come back next year and every year after that.
