Nesting Instinct

This is my first post (it is me, Matt).

Adrienne is starting to get the nesting instinct (I think she is growing a beak and pecking at straw . . . . . but maybe that is just me). We decided this past weekend that we are going to move into the West U house at the beginning of next year (or maybe between Christmas and New Year's Eve).

With that in mind, we have lots of work to do between now and then (buy a movable dish washer, have the garbage disposal fixed, make some electrical and plumbing upgrades, and get Reese's room ready). We went to Lowe's this weekend and purchased a gallon of pink paint and a quart of pink paint (but a different color pink). Naturally . . . . . Adrienne insisted the two shades of pink match the two shades of pink in the bedding we purchased (Don't get me started on buying overpriced bedding). Reese isn't even born yet, and I am already in the poor house . . . . Oh well, I guess it is just part of life that I am beginning to be wrapped around her little finger.

Well that was my first post. At this rate . . . my next post will be May 2008. See you then.

Tap Dancing?

Reese gets really active at different times during the day and sometimes I think she is actually walking on my bladder. Most likely she is only sitting, laying or bumping into it, but it feels like she's tap dancing! Luckily it usually does not last too long, but it definitely makes me feel like I have to pee. I continue to be amazed by the wonders of pregnancy. At night Matt and I watch my belly to see her move. It's so strange to see my belly move up and down almost like she is poking me. Matt thinks it is freaky (in a good way)!

I'm feeling good and still having weird dreams, constant heartburn and am energetic one day and tired the next.

October Dr. Appointment

I had another appointment this morning. It was short and sweet although I arrived a little late, so I ended up being there longer than I anticipated. Nurse Amy took my blood pressure which was 124/68 and then listened to Reese's heartbeat which was beating at 151/minute. Reese kicked when Amy placed the wand on my belly and we heard this thump. Amy said, "She just kicked you, did you feel that?" Well, yes I did...Reese has been moving a lot lately. Matt and I are convinced she will be a very active feisty little girl.

My 5 pound weight gain wasn't too bad, so hopefully I am on track to only gain 25-30 pounds during the entire pregnancy. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! As of today, I've gained 14 pounds so far.

Here's how I'm looking at 23 weeks.

Reese and I are definitely growing!

Dr. Leeds-Richter said everything looked great and I'm measuring at 23. She also told me about the classes she requires Matt and I to take: A hospital tour and Baby CPR. She does not require us to take Lamaze since I plan to get an epidural. Fine with me! We also have many optional classes to choose from including Life with Baby which sounds like one I'd like to take. We've got to do more research on the hospital website to see what they offer.

I also got a flu shot. My next appointment is November 14th in the morning, and I'll also be taking the glucose test to make sure I do not have gestational diabetes. After the November appointment I'll start going every 2 weeks.

Matt and I were talking the other night about how quickly the end of this year is going to pass with our busy work schedules, baby showers and the holidays. Before we know it Reese will be here!

This weekend we are going to make a plan to get the Albans house ready to move in next April. Matt can't wait to paint Reese's room pink! I'm sure her room will be ready before anything else. We also need to fix some health and safety issues like the natural gas line that runs through the air ducts, get the plumbing checked, clean the air ducts, replace the kitchen floor, etc.

Registering for Reese

Matt and I finally registered for Reese's baby gear! It only took 4 trips, and I'm sure we'll still make a few changes online!

The selection process began on Friday night when we met Wendy, Nolan and Karsyn at Babies R Us to get their advice on what to get and what not to get. It was so nice to have Wendy walk me through the store and point out must haves and things we'll never use. Matt and Nolan strolled the store with Karsyn while Wendy and I browsed everything baby. All the while, I'm furiously taking mental notes. Afterwards we headed to dinner at Rajun Cajun where Nolan and Matt caught up and Wendy and I talked babies! Karsyn was quite entertaining the entire night. We looked away for one second and before we knew it she had turned her styrofoam cup upside down and had bitten a whole through the bottom. She had me rolling in laughter! Needless to say, we all got a little wet.

On Saturday, Matt and I went back to Babies R Us and began the process. Even with Wendy's advice, we were overwhelmed with the variety of bottles, nipples, pacifiers etc. So we closed our eyes and pulled the trigger hoping one of the 10 pacifiers we picked would please Reese. We moved on through the feeding, safety, bathing, potty, toy and travel sections studying and scanning the products. Before we knew it we were both tired and hungry, so we agreed to break for the day and come back on Sunday. We proceeded to Texadelphia to meet Jennifer, Chad and Baby Brady to watch the Tech vs. A&M game. Go Raiders!

On Sunday, we went back to Babies R Us and picked out our car seat, travel system, pack 'n play, jumper, swing, etc. etc. There was so much stuff! I don't know if we will need everything, but I guess you never know what your baby will like and dislike so you've got to get it just in case. Afterwards we went to visit Matt's parents. That evening we met my friend Megan, who was in from San Antonio, for dinner. She had super great news to share with us...she and Mike are expecting their first child and due are May 11th. Yippee! We are so happy for them!

Matt and I finally wrapped up our registration tonight at Target. It was much easier since there are not near as many items to choose from and it was not crowded at all. We had the entire baby section to ourselves.

The entire process really wore me out but it was a lot of fun!

Happy Shopping!

Saying Farewell, Getting Rained Out & Celebrating New Beginnings!

Matt and I enjoyed a busy weekend which started on Thursday evening at his Ernst & Young farewell happy hour at Kay's.

After a lot of thought and discussion, Matt has decided to leave public accounting and has accepted a great opportunity at Key Energy Services. He starts next Wednesday. To say the least, Matt has been very busy wrapping up things at EY before his last day on Tuesday.

I was in Austin on Thursday for the Texas Conference for Women and arrived back in Houston in time to stop by the happy hour. It was a lot of fun! All of Matt’s colleagues were so excited to see me and talk about Reese. It was obvious how happy they are for us because they all came up to me and reached for the belly. It was great to catch up and hang out. We have been surrounded by this great group of people for many years now and we'll miss them! Matt and I will definitely keep in touch!

Matt and I were both exhausted Friday night as the week finally caught up with us. We grabbed a quick bite to eat at Rajun Cajun. I really enjoyed the meal, so we’ll have to go with Nolan, Wendy and Karsyn soon (they love that place). We went home and went to bed as I had to get up at 5:00 a.m. to walk in the Race for the Cure.

Mom and I were out the door on Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. as we were scheduled to meet the Hitachi Consulting and Team Millenbah folks downtown for pictures before the race. We did grab a Starbucks on the way!

Here’s a picture of some of our team (Mom, Debbie, Lynn, Me):

After lots of team photos we headed to the starting line to attend the opening ceremonies. Unfortunately it started pouring down rain! A few of us decided the rain was too much to battle and we headed home. Seeing as it was about 8:30 a.m., I was getting hungry, so Mom and I went to breakfast at Buffalo Grille. We were not the only ones from the race who left due to the rain; the line was out the door with race participants. Matt met us there and we enjoyed a great breakfast as usual.

After breakfast, Matt and I packed our bags and hit the road for Austin. Stacy’s wedding was Saturday evening at Reunion Ranch in Georgetown. The wedding was beautiful and gave us a chance to reunite with our college friends. Many of us worked for Bill Holubec at The Financial Services Center (where Matt and I met).

Here’s a picture of the old FSC team (Randa, Bill, Beverly, Paxton, Matt & Me):

Here are a few pictures from the wedding. Stacy and Ryan are a lovely couple and we are so happy for them!

The ASU alums...all married now!

Matt and me with the beautiful bride.

Stacy and her ASU girls!

I’m now at 21 weeks which starts the 6th month. I'm still tired; I don't think it ever ends! :) I'm also having lower back pain again, so I'm guessing my body is growing and stretching to make more room for Reese. You can see from the pictures that I am getting bigger. Our next appointment is on October 17.

Halfway there and having the weirdest dreams along the way

I hit 20 weeks last Thursday, 9/27, which means we are halfway there considering full term is 40 weeks. I'm feeling good, but pretty tired. Mom and I went for a 2.5 mile walk on Sunday and it wore me out! It started out cool but got hot and humid fast, plus we took a couple of hills which were tiring. When we got back I took a nap, woke up to eat lunch and shower and then took another nap. I can't believe it made me so tired! Mom and I are walking in the Komen Houston Race for the Cure this coming Saturday. (Click here to visit my company’s race page.) I'm hoping I do not get too worn out as Matt and I will be heading to Austin afterwards for my fabulous friend Stacy's wedding that evening. I'll just take a nice nap on the way there! ;)

I think my weird dreams are also making me tired because I am not getting restful sleep. Last night I had a dream about being in LA with Sara and Kelly (my two best friends from high school) and a few others from high school. We were in Los Angeles battling a flood and we ended up at In-N-Out Burger! How weird is that? I've never even been to LA. The strange dreams come and go, but are so vivid they are stressful and therefore exhausting. When the alarm goes off I enjoy hitting the snooze button because I am actually getting some 'non-dream' rest even though it gets interrupted every 10 minutes by the next song on the radio.

Reese is doing great! She is really moving a lot lately especially after I eat. The sweets seem to get her going too. Mom finally got to feel her move the other night after many attempts to catch the movement when Mom's hand was on my belly. Matt has also felt Reese multiple times now. She kicked really hard one night, and he felt her twice in a row. She never ceases to amaze us.

Stay tuned...I'll update the blog with pictures from the race and the wedding this weekend!
